Vacationing in Punta Cana

As you may know, many of my trips consist of heavy adventuring. Whether it be camping, hiking, or exploring cities for all they have to offer, sometimes a relaxing vacation is more of what I need.

Originally this trip was planned for Derrick and I to go to Mexico. Through planning, my family, and cousins, along with Derrick and I ended up booking a trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Choosing an all inclusive resort can be super intimidating and difficult. There are SO many choices and a lot of them have really good reviews. There were a few things we knew we really wanted including a good mix of restaurant choices, a swim up bar in the pool, and we really wanted to stay at an adult only resort. We had narrowed it down to 3 and my mom ultimately choose Breathless Punta Cana. My cousin Melissa and her husband Chris had been to a few other all inclusive resorts so the pressure was on us to pick a good one!

Upon arriving to the resort after 18 hours of flying, changing planes, delays and layovers, we were greeted with a cocktail and a hot towel at the door. After checking in they did try to take us off to a secluded area to pressure us into purchasing a timeshare but we didn't qualify (not that we were looking anyways!). We finally made it to our room and unpacked to get the party started! We were the last ones to make it there so everyone else was already settled in by the pool.

There were 2 lazy rivers that run down each side of the hotel and we had booked a room that opened up to the lazy river. The only problem with that was, our side was mostly shaded from the hotel so we never really went into the lazy river because it was too cold.

The fun aspect about this resort is the entertainment. I wasn't expecting the amazing experience that we had! They have 2 parties a day, one in the afternoon at the main "party pool" and then at night there is another party somewhere else on the grounds. We never saw the same show twice, there was something different every day! Many of which were interactive so everyone could join in on the fun!

Water balloon fight, foam party, Great Gatsby party with FIRE, white beach party, mini concerts, arial shows, and fitness sessions either in the pool or on the grounds in the afternoons! The entertainment really made this place something special.

If you didn't want to participate in the festivities, there was a more quiet pool closer to the beach where you could relax with a cocktail.

Excursions were also offered by the staff walking around by the pool as well. The guys had booked a side by side buggy ride through some trails (they wouldn't recommend doing that again. The equipment was mostly broken and they felt bombarded by locals selling items while they were waiting for their ride.), we all booked a massage at the spa which was a really really great experience, and we did a dolphin encounter.

The dolphin encounter was fun and this happened...

He couldn't' exactly get down on one knee in the pool but the staff did an excellent job at pulling this huge surprise off! I had no idea it was coming!

Ok enough of the cute stuff, lets talk about the food! There were 8 restaurants, a buffet (our favorite), a grill on the beach, and a cafe. There were always plenty of options, not to mention you also get access to the resort next door called Now Onyx. You are able to eat at any of their restaurants and use their pools which was a huge bonus! Our favorites were the hibachi grill and the buffet for our late night snacks!

Overall this resort far exceeded any of our expectations and I think it was one for the books! It's almost a year later and we are still talking about it. I would highly recommend this resort for anyone looking to have a great, memorable vacation!
